FuZZpots

How are FuZZpots Made?

FuZZpots are created from recycled wool sweaters.
    * First, the sweater is carefully unraveled.
    * Next, a basket is crocheted from the yarn.  Additional designs may also be                     embroidered onto the finished basket.

    * The piece is carefully felted until it reaches just the right size, shape and density.

    * Finally, it is stretched over a form to dry.

The finished product is soft and malleable, yet sturdy.  It can be folded and crushed and will spring back to its original shape.

 What is Felting?

If you have ever accidentally shrunk a wool sweater in the washing machine, welcome to the world of felting.  The tiny hairs on wool fibers become tangled when agitated in hot soapy water.  When cold water is added, the fibers constrict and lock together, creating a wonderfully warm, dense, matted fabric.  The thickness of the felt will depend upon the original fibers as well as the length of the felting process.  It is difficult to predict just how each wool will felt up, particularly working with recycled materials.  This is where the magic of the process comes in!
